To start the ball rolling, here's three freebies!
Scratch
MIT developed Object-Orientated Programming (OOP) program. Introduces you to how Java works. If you register with the site it also allows you to upload your own and download other people's projects. http://scratch.mit.edu
Processing
Another OOP from MIT, but more advanced than Scratch. WARNING: You have to have good maths skills in order to understand what's going on! Andy Piper's got books on it if you're desperate. http://processing.org
Blender
Open-source 3D software. Extensive online tutorials and support available. Provides a basis for learning other 3D programs like LightWave, Maya and 3D Studio Max. http://www.blender.org
