Action Research - Questionnaire
At the end of this month I will be submitting my Action Research report as part of my PGCE course. The intervention is this blog, I am attempting to use it as a means of providing answers to technical questions that my students may ask, in a non-threatening, casual environment. This blog has now been running for 4 months now, and the resources/links are slowly growing.
Next week I will be circulating a paper-based questionnaire during my lessons and would very much appreciate you filling it in! All the questionnaires are confidential. If however you want voice you opinion of this blog, please post a comment below by clicking on the Comments hyperlink below, again it is confidential.
I look forward to reading your opinions!

Rebranding...
As you may know, what we know and love as ELIHE is about to evolve into UC@BC. I believe you may have seen some of the suggested logos.
IMHO I feel they all look like school uniform badges (think Grange Hill, if you are old enough to remember it!) and do not portray a modern day higher educational establishment. Plus get rid of that plughole...

Printing PDFs - Important
Until further notice - if you need to print PDF documents, use Acrobat Professional, not Adobe Reader. There is an incompatibility issue between PaperCut and until an update on one resolves that, then this is the only way you can print!
If you are using single page documents, Illy or Preview will do just as well...

Macintosh Antivirus Software
In the light of the College's recent PC worm scare, people have been asking as to whether the Macs are protected. The answer is yes, the Mac server on which all of your accounts are stored is protected by Clam AV, a free open-source antivirus utility which is automatically updated.
The link below reviews some common Mac AV programs:
Remember to check regularly for updates - as new viruses arise, new updates emerge in turn to counter them.
It's a common misconception that Macs don't get viruses: it's just that they don't get them as frequently, as they are a smaller proportion of the world PC market.
On an additional note - beware of ripping CS4 off Limewire, some of the files contain a trojan virus!

National Student Survey
Please don't forget to participate in this!
Go to http://www.thestudentsurvey.com. It only takes a couple of minutes to do - trust me I know, I've done it myself! Note that our educational institution is in this case Blackburn College (not ELIHE).

Mac Problems
I am introducing a new system for fault reporting.
If you are experiencing problems with your computer, software or login go to http://fault-blog.blogspot.com and log the problem there. Due to my teaching commitments I am not always able to sort problems out immediately; if they are documented this way then I know what, where and when they occur. Please be as precise as possible, say what where when and how the problem occurred. I will then flag up when I have resolved it.
If you require printer cartridges and paper please text Cath on 07837 072424 and she will replace them at the nearest available opportunity.
If you are experiencing login problems, get a friend to post to the blog on your behalf.
Please do not let faults go unreported.
